DATES FOR YOUR DIARY
INSET DAYS (School closed to pupils):- Mon 4 Jan 2010 Fri 12 Feb 2010 Fri 28 May 2010
Tuesday 5th January—back to school! Africa Appeal The Early Years Unit have raised £300 for “Save the Children” in Africa. This will fund school supplies for a year and also buy toys, seeds, emergency food supplies and a water filter. The children made and sold wrapping paper, cards, pomanders, cakes and reindeer food. They also made a collection at their Christmas Show. Well done!
MERRY CHRISTMAS
The staff would like to wish everyone a very happy Christmas and new year. We look forward to seeing you back at school on Tuesday 5th January 2010.
Now the winter months are here, please may I remind you of the ways we will advise if school has to close:- By text (so please ensure we have your latest mobile number!) On the school Website: www.whittington-school.co.uk Via local radio stations On the County website at www.staffordshire.gov.uk/education/schoolsandcolleges/emergencyclosures/
ABSENCE Thank you for using the answerphone to leave absence messages. This has been of tremendous assistance to the school office in a morning when the volume of calls and visitors is very high. If you have not yet used the answerphone, please may we encourage you to try it. When you ring school, you will always hear an automated message with two options. If you press “ 1” you may leave absence details. If you press “ 2 “ you will be transferred to a member of staff. Messages are checked regularly throughout the day.
Please remember to check the school website for up-to-date information.

Dance Academy There is a magical performing arts workshop on 21st, 22nd and 23rd December in Shenstone. Cost is normally £60 but we have been given ten half-price vouchers at the school office. If your child would like to attend, please call at the school office.
Walking Bus update We have received very few responses for the walking bus scheme and it will not therefore take place.
We have been asked to pass on the following message from the police:-
“In a bid to cut fatal and serious road traffic collisions, an annual campaign has begun to target drink and drug drivers in Staffordshire. Police will carry out random road-side stop-checks on vehicles and their drivers during the campaign. Motorists involved in road traffic collisions are also breath-tested as a matter of routine. Please remember you can’t calculate your own alcohol level, but the police can. If you are having a drink, but driving the next morning, you should think of the consequences of drink driving. The more alcohol you consume the longer it takes to clear your body.”
Congratulations!
Well done to Sam Lane who has been awarded “pupil of the term” at Lichfield SPLD centre.
Thank you
We would like to thank and congratulate Mr Rob Coombs for his donation of £170.00 to school after completing the 2009 Great Midlands Fun Run. January 2010 from 3.30-4.30 p.m.
This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. |
