£   £   £       Pound a Poem.     £   £   £

MARCH 2009 -  We are extremely pleased to announce that Romany Ryan, who was chosen as the year one winner in school, has gone on to be judged a regional winner in the pound a poem competition. Romany will have her wonderful poem published in the forthcoming pound a poem book and also won the school ₤100 of books for the new library. Huge congratulations for Romany, all of us here at Whittington are extremely proud of your achievements.
Well done!

I would like to say huge thank-you to all the children who wrote poems and brought in money for the 'Pound a Poem' fundraising competition. Mrs Wilmot had the very difficult job of judging all the entries over the half term holiday. The six winners have been chosen and now their fantastic poems will go forward to be judged by the likes of Jacqueline Wilson, alongside winners from schools all over the country. So good luck to our winning poets from Whittington !

The winners and their poems:-

Jordan Hearn.

Healthy Eating.

Five pieces a day of veg and fruit

A good healthy portion, not minute

Humans and monkeys both eat bananas

They also enjoy currents and sultanas

The dentist recommends you eat an apple a day

To keep away tooth decay

Next time you’re hungry eat fruit not sweets

Then you’ll be enjoying a real treat.

Grace Spencer.

Have you ever seen a bear on a chair

Munching a pear with flair.

Have you ever seen Helen eating a melon

With long golden hair.

Have you ever seen two apes

Hiding behind curtain drapes

Trying to peel red and green grapes.

Leah Smith.

Veg and Fruit.

Veg is healthy

Fruit is sweet

They’re the most healthy things

You could eat.

A child’s best friend

An adults too

Tuck into dinner

Healthy for you.

Carrots are orange

Sprouts are green

That’s the same colour

As a fresh runner bean.

Put veg with meat

And eat it for dinner

Bananas and custard

You’re on to a winner.

Laurent Tennant.

H is for handwashing before you eat,

E is for eggs a healthy treat,

A is for apples bright and colourful,

L is for lime sour but beautiful,

T is for treats you have twice a week,

H is for healthy so you will never be weak,

Y is for yummy, healthy eating in my tummy.

E is for enormous melons big and scrummy,

A is for apricot orange and round,

T is for tomato, it’s my favourite I have found,

I is for increadible choices that you can make,

N is for nectarine a juicy snack to take,

G is for grapes purple and green, and the tastiest poem you have ever seen.

Harvey Baran.

Carrot.

It starts in the ground

And it grows, grows, grows

And then it’s ready

You can have it for Sunday tea

With your friends and family.

Romany Ryan.

Grapes are green

And so is a bean

I love cherries

I love berries

Apples are green and red

They are good for me
