Art
Art at Whittington is alive, vibrant and evident. We do our best to offer all children a huge range of experience in vast range of activities. The children are able to work with a huge selection of materials from paint to collage to clay to drawing. The children have a great many opportunities to create pieces of individual and collaborative work, which are as varied and exciting as possible.
Throughout the school there is evidence of art all around us, within classrooms, along corridors and within the hall, all reflect the children's talents.
We have been very lucky to have, many prestigious artists who have spent time with us, Philip Cox a paper sculptor, Liz Astbury a potter. Recently we had a very successful “Art Week”, where we had over 15 local artists and crafts people come into the school to demonstrate their skills. They didn't only demonstrate but also taught children a range of skills, which included calligraphy, watercolour painting, weaving, tea bag folding, rug making, woodcarving, floristry, pottery, the list goes on... We were very grateful as they gave their help freely and willingly, it was a very enjoyable experience for all involved, especially the children!
There is also a very well attended art club, where the children are able to experience art in a relaxed atmosphere, working with a variety of media and developing many new skills.
