WWhittington PTA Newsletter Autumn Term 2007 AUTUMN Welcome to another new year of fun-packed events and fund-raising from Whittington PTA. And a particularly warm welcome to all new parents! As other Mums and Dads will tell you, we are always on the look-out for new members to support our dedicated band of parents and teachers. We are keen to make a difference by raising funds to support the school in a wide variety of activities, as well as contributing to other ‘extras’ which help to make school and learning even more worthwhile and fun for all our children. We’re also a key sponsor of the school garden project, which we’re sure you will agree, is growing beautifully, boosted recently by the completion of the stage by the Army. Thanks again to everyone who supported July’s Summer Fair which raised a record £2,200. The balloon race helped us to reach new heights! Mrs Clarkson’s winning balloon travelled an amazing 150 miles to Thompson in Norfolk, while runners-up were Lawrence Kennedy and Owen Reveley. Well done! A total of 13 labels were returned altogether, mainly from addresses in Leicestershire. Other forthcoming events and fund-raisers: Friday October 5Race Night – We’re under starter’s orders for what promises to be a sell-out event. Thanks to support from sponsors: Montpelier, Straightforward Solutions, Touchwood Construction, MyMaths.co.uk, BT, Gee Up, Ocean Finance, At Home Veterinary Services, Frosts Photocentre, Field Hamlin and Lichfield Trailer Centre. Thursday October 18 School Disco – Back by popular demand! 5.30pm – 6.30pm - Infants 7.00pm – 8.15pm - Juniors £2 entry includes packet of crisps and unlimited squash. Please sort out your unwanted clothes, shoes and household items. Collection bags will be circulated shortly. Friday December 1 Non-Uniform Day Rather than ask for a monetary contribution, we are asking children to donate a prize for the Christmas Tombola for the pleasure of wearing what they want for the day. Saturday December 2 2 – 4pmChristmas Fair A variety of stalls and festive fun are promised for all the family, with more details to follow later. Webb Ivory Catalogues are doing the rounds in school, so please check your children’s book bags if you want to make any purchases! The PTA will benefit from every order placed. We would again appreciate your support for the ‘100 Club’ Prize Draw. The more people who support this monthly draw (just £1.80 a month for 10 months), the more money raised – and the more cash you could win! Details are being circulated separately, with more information available from Kate Taylor-Weetman on 432441. We are still collecting your old printer cartridges, as they can earn money for PTA funds when they are recycled. Please deposit all donations in the box outside the school’s main entrance. Thank you. The next PTA meeting – incorporating the AGM – will be held on Monday, October 15, beginning at 7.30pm at The Bell Pub in Main Street. All welcome! Why not come along and see what you might be able to contribute – in ideas or time – and please let us know if you would be interested in helping at any of our events. Or please drop us a note in the PTA’s red Post Box in the school’s reception. You can’t miss it! Thank you. The Committee. |
