PSHE

At Whittington, we believe and value the place of PSHE within the curriculum. We have it as a timetabled subject but also have cross curricular provision at different times throughout both Key stage one and two. In this way we believe that the children will acquire, learn and develop a range of skills and strategies.

Within the PSHE sessions, the children play a variety of types of games to encourage trust and support, allowing the children to share their experiences, listen carefully to one another and acknowledge one another's feelings. The class teacher leads the children into a 'discussion'. This discussion can include many types of media to promote discussion including, watching videos, reading books, looking at posters, through the use of puppets, etc. The 'discussion' can be then followed by a suitable activity, including role-play, individual or group work. At the end of a session there is always opportunity to reflect on what being shared and what has been learnt.

The school also has a very active School Council, which has a child from every class in the school as a representative. The School Council meets regularly and then the class representative reports back to their class on developments and issues that are to be discussed. The School Council have their own notice board within the school to inform the school of issues, comments and any notices.
