Science
KS1 Science
In Science year 1 and year 2 learn about their bodies. They learn how to label the main parts of their body and what some of their organs do. The year 2's made some fantastic skeletons and learnt the names of some bones. We all had a lot of fun learning how we change as we get older and drawing self-portraits of what we think we will look like when we are very old people! We sorted things into living and non-living things and we found out that some things are not alive but have come from living things.
At the moment we are learning how to sort materials in different ways. We have found out that some materials are natural and some are manufactured. We were surprised that so many natural materials have been altered in some way before they are used e.g. polished stones, coloured woollen gloves, wooden chairs and leather boots. We have made some interesting natural material collages and manufactured material collages.
KS 2 Science
In KS 2 the emphasis is very much on learning and developing investigative skills. These include planning, predicting and interpreting results of investigations. Children within the key stage work within groups to carry out their investigations, using their own initiative to organise their ideas and resources.
Topics are taught over two years.
