Science Club

At Whittington Primary School the year 1s have been enjoying science club . Every Wednesday after school parents or grandparents are invited to join in with the children to learn some 'WOW' science!

Sometimes we do experiments such as 'Using chromatography to find out which sweets have the most colours in them' and 'Testing how long candles burn for in different sized jars?'

We have also had fun making things that work because of Science such as:

  • Kites (using the force of air resistance to make them fly)

  • Periscopes and Kaleidoscopes (using mirrors to reflect light in interesting and useful ways)

  • Matching games (using electrical circuits to light up bulbs andmake buzzers buzz)

  • Slime (changes take place when materials are mixed).

All the children have had a great time!! Meanwhile the adults have enjoyed learning new things about Science (and realising it isn't as boring as they once thought!) whilst spending time helping their children to learn.
