The Queen's Birthday Party!

Here is a little write up all about how Rosie and Katie got on at the event on Sunday. They enjoyed seeing a bit of The Palace on the way through to the garden, and loved spotting the children's book characters who were there for photo opportunities: Noddy, Big Ears, Tessie Bear and the Goblins; Bob the Builder, Fireman Sam, lots of Mr Men and Little Miss Birthday, Winnie The Poo, Postman Pat, Punch and Judy, and 2 White Witches. The girls each had a (disposable) camera in their picnic hampers, and enjoyed taking their own.

There was plenty of food in the picnic hamper (provided by Jamie Oliver and Sainsburys), plus sun protection and a rain poncho (which we didn't need). The Queen walked through the garden, but a crowd gathered, and we didn't get very close to her, but we saw her quite close up at the end of the show, as we were sitting four rows from the front. We were thrilled by the Queen's garden, which was enormous, and she had turned it over to Fairyland, the Hundred Acre Wood, Mr MacGregor's garden, Toad of Toad Hall's landing station and a pirate beach by the lake, Fifi and the Flower Tots' garden, Mowgli in The Jungle, Thomas the Tank Engine's at the station, plus soft play areas and face painting. This was all in addition to the (televised) show, so we could have done with more time to enjoy it all.

Sounds like they both had a super day!!!

Two of our Year 2/1 children have gotten tickets to the Queen's birthday party on the 25th June!

There was a draw to win 3,000 tickets for a children's party hosted by the Queen to celebrate her 80th birthday.

The celebration at Buckingham Palace on 25 June will feature a host of characters from Britain's favourite children's books. Harry Potter author JK Rowling will be among the guests, along with Paddington Bear, Mowgli from the Jungle Book and Winnie the Pooh. Chef and school dinner campaigner Jamie Oliver will create a picnic for the guests.

One of the Queen's favourite books when she was a child was Black Beauty by Anne Sewell, and a palace spokeswoman said the monarch hoped the event would encourage children to read.

"The day will also focus on the family and the key role that grandparents and parents, relatives and friends can play in shaping a child's love of books through the favourite stories that families pass down through generations," said The Queen.

"We hope this day will encourage children to explore new worlds through the characters and their stories." We hope this day will encourage children to explore new worlds through the characters stated a spokeperson from Buckingham Palace.

Congratulations to both girls and their families and have a super time!! Don't forget to sing "Happy Birthday"!
