Year 3/4 are made up of 3 classes, with approximately 25 in each class. By the end of their time in year 3/4, we expect the children to be independent learners taking responsibility for themselves, their belongings and their learning. We want them to have been motivated and encouraged, and to enjoy the opportunities that are presented to them. |

| This term year 3 / 4 will be studying the Ancient Egyptians. We will be looking at the main events of Ancient Egyptian times including the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb and the Rosetta Stone. We will also be exploring the daily life of Ancient Egyptians and studying the geography of Egypt and key places such as the Nile. Pharoahs and Gods will be studied along with other famous Egyptians such as Cleopatra. We will also be learning about how to write in hieroglyphics and making a pop-up Egyptian Adventure book. In Science we will be exploring ‘Rocks & Soils’, ‘Light & Shadows’ and the science behind mummification.
To enhance the excellence and enjoyment of the childrens’ learning we will be visiting the Egyptian exhibition at the British History Museum in Birmingham, followed by a trip to the Alexandra Theatre to watch ‘The Awesome Egyptians’. |

| Year 3/4 Swimming | ||
|
Every Friday morning two of the year 3/4 classes goes to the Friary High School and are taught to swim with floats, rings and arm bands provided leading to County and A.S.A. Awards. The children go swimming for 20 weeks each academic year. Swimming and water safety is a statutory activity at Key Stage 2 in order that pupils achieve the teaching requirements outlined in the programme of study i.e. pupils should be able to swim unaided over a distance of at least 25m. All children must wear a swimming hat and remove all jewellery before entering the pool. Boys must wear trunks and NOT swimming shorts. Girls should wear suitable one piece swimming costumes. If children have verucas they MUST wear a veruca sock which can be purchased from any leisure centre/swimming pool. Swimming hats can be purchased from the swimming baths at a cost of £1.00

The year 3 children will be taking part in the K2M initiative, which will tale place every Wednesday morning. They will be provided with a violin for the year, which will need to be in school every Wednesday. |
