At Whittington Primary School, we believe that it is vital for all our pupils to learn from and about religion, so that they can understand the world around them. Through Religious Education, pupils develop their knowledge of the world faiths, and their understanding and awareness of the beliefs, values and traditions of other individuals, societies, communities and cultures. We encourage our pupils to ask questions about the world and to reflect on their own beliefs, values and experiences.

Our Religious Education curriculum is enhanced further with trips to places of worship. We use the agreed Staffordshire Religious Education syllabus as the basis for our curriculum. 

The aims of RE within the Staffordshire Agreed Syllabus are that pupils should acquire:

• An increasing core of insightful knowledge concerning religions and beliefs, both in Britain and in more global terms in order to acquire knowledge and understanding of religious stories, sacred texts, lifestyles, rituals and symbolism that offer insight into religious experience and living within a faith community.
• A developing capacity to engage with ultimate questions and to formulate their own sense of identity and values so that they can appreciate the human and religious questions that are raised by life and its experiences.
• A growing range of the social, spiritual and emotional skills and dispositions appropriate to living well in a religiously plural and open society in order to develop the skills of analysis and discernment in relation to prejudice, discrimination and bias, together with skills of self-awareness, moral judgement and responsible choice.
