Science

At Whittington Primary School, we believe that this quote under pins our approach to science. We want all children to feel that they are scientists. Through fun, engaging and well sequenced lessons, we encourage children to be inquisitive throughout their time at the school and beyond. Our science curriculum aims to develop and nurture a curiosity in our children and a lifelong love and appreciation of the sciences.

Science is taught in well-planned and arranged topic blocks and cross curricula links will be made wherever possible. For example, when learning about rocks in science children also created their own Henry Moore rock art sculptures. Links to quality English texts also help to deepen the knowledge acquired.

Children will be provided with problem solving opportunities and practical, hands on learning which encourages them to ask their own questions and use their developing scientific skills and knowledge to discover answers. We build upon the learning and skill development of the previous years.

We aim for children to develop the scientific skills and knowledge which enables them to select and use scientific equipment and use it to collect, collate and interpret results. We truly believe all children are scientists!
